UELAC Monument and Plaque

Tusket, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia

In 1964 Yarmouth County Historical Society honoured the memory of the United Empire Loyalists, mostly of Dutch ancestry, who settled in the area in 1784.
The monument is located in Tusket, Nova Scotia at the corner of Highway No. 3 No. 3 (Lighthouse Route) and Highway No. 308 (Fisherman’s Memorial Highway).

Inscription on Plaque:

IN PROUD MEMORY
OF THOSE
UNITED EMPIRE LOYALISTS
THE MAJORITY
OF THEM OF DUTCH ORIGIN
WHO
DEFEATED AND DESPOILED
WERE COMPELLED TO FIND
REFUGE HERE FOLLOWING THE
AMERICAN REVOLUTION.
ARRIVING HERE, THE FIRST
IN 1784,
THEY ESTABLISHED NEW HOMES
IN THE WILDERNESS
AND HAVE MADE A MOST
NOTEWORTHY CONTRIBUTION TO
THE PROGRESS AND DEVELOPMENT
OF THE PROVINCE AND NATION
